oh, asos.

I got a tad carried away on asos' 48 hour sale last night. At one point in the night I had $800 worth of stuff in my cart, but had to reason with myself - I actually called my bf and told him I felt sick, and replied 'because I'm about to spend lots of money' when he asked why. I managed to cull it down to eight items, which I felt less sick about lol.

Anywho, I had today off & used it to avoid assignments, distract Alex from doing his, veer dangerously away from my health kick (it lasted only 2 days - I skipped exercise today, and replaced it with an afternoon nap and a hideously large lunch; I'll make up for it tomorrow lol) & catch up with an old friend. I was very excited to be able to wear something coloured for the first time this week, instead of dreary & depressing black. I may have gotten a tad carried away.

Oh, and before you say anything, yes I was in my kitchen, that is my oven/microwave behind me, I do pose retardedly, and my hands are HIDEOUS. Mum said I got those hands from her, and the way they looked meant that I was going to have to work hard in life. lol. Looking forward to that one.

Oh and I LOVE my new novo wedges. We're gonna be best friends this summer, I can feel it.

And after a day of doing fuck all, I came home to a package from asos - my purchases from last week's 4am buy. I love online shopping! (my bank account, does not.) These photos don't do the items justice though (crappy night photos with bad lighting & a flash) - I'm sure you'll see more of them later on, in more flattering light...

I may have gotten a tad carried away...

So I've been on uni break since last tuesday. I've also been pretending since last tuesday that the three assignments I have due when I get back don't exist. I'll worry about them later. I mean, worry about what later? I don't have anything to worry about. lol.

Anywho. I've worked for (at least a few hours) 9 out of the last 10 days. Which is why I haven't really posted in a while. Not because I've been so overly busy that I haven't had time, but because working so much means one thing for my selection of wardrobe - black. And lots of it. Not saying I didn't work it, because I totes did (cue hair flicking), but it's not the most fun thing to blog about.

My terrible shopping habits haven't changed though.

Yeap. All this plus another package full of accessories, and two pairs of shoes, two dresses and two pairs of trousers from asos. I may just have gone a tad overboard. Talking about asos, theres a sale I need to get to. Til next time kiddos!

my old uniform

There was a period of time, three years ago, when this was my uniform.

Okay, so the feathers may have replaced an oversized pendant costume necklace, and I may have been carrying a slightly different variation of tan-coloured bag, but that's about the gist of it. I was one year out of highschool, and thoroughly enjoying the freedom of wearing whatever I wanted instead of my hideous brown and yellow school uniform. Now, when maxi dresses first started appearing I openly proclaimed that this was one trend I was NOT going to follow - I remember thinking that that sort of length would make anyone look frumpy. But, as the months progressed, and, as with many trends before (and after) it, I gradually gave in (and then, in true Vinh fashion, became completely and utterly obsessed, and went overboard, buying them in every cut, colour and print I could get my hands on). Last summer (and some of winter, teamed with cardis or blazers) I practically lived in maxis - they're so effortlessly glamourous, comfortable & chic. And even though most days I now prefer them in plain colours (maybe with a bit of embellishment here & there), unseasonably warm weather, blue skies & sunshine call for a revival of the bright, bold florals, tan accessories, aviator sunnies, and denim vests of old.

This dress is one of my old faves - it's been with me from the very beginning of my maxsession (maxi obsession). I snapped it up at an insane, unpublicized Bardot sale - 100% silk. Was: $149.95. I paid: $8.99. What?! Cray-zee. Oh, and the sandals, from Just Jeans. $1. Yes, $1. You know, no biggie, just the bargain of the century.

Also, I found these amazing rings this week at a cheap little pop-up stand in the middle of the shopping centre I work in. They look soooooo much more expensive than they were. Love love love! Excuse my gross hands. I'm in desperate need of a mani/pedi.

The drunk girl pose.

I took a little detour on the way home after finishing class a little earlier on Thursday night, with an old work friend - Vogue Fashion's Night Out was on throughout the cbd and we wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Pitt St was absolutely packed with people, despite the fact that it has just started to sprinkle. The atmosphere was electric, with bright lights, and the smell of style in the air. I felt embarrassingly under dressed in my uni clothes and matching post-uni face - some girls (and guys) had gone all out, with full hair, makeup, & stilettos - a ridiculous, but oh-so-glamourous choice of footwear for a shopping event.

I had an amazing night, and surprisingly, didn't spend a cent! We had delicious free cupcakes in the middle of pitt street, saw a few aussie celebs (Ruby Rose, Hayden Quinn, & Miranda Otto - who I literally bumped into), took photobooth photos at Bardot & Hermes, regretted the fact that we both had to drive, and thus had to forgo the insane amounts of free alcohol (Champagne, sparkling wine, daquiris & other cocktails) being handed out in every second store we went into (instead having to opt for Peeptoe & Hermes water), and shamelessly oogled smouldering male models and staff.
Unfortunately I didn't bring my camera with me, so I didn't get to document the night - but here's our shot from Hermes. The end product totaly wasn't worth the wait - in the end they sent us a muck up one that we took. The British photographer told us to look sexy because we were wearing Hermes. Our reaction was to do the classic 'drunk girl' kissing pose. Oh dear. But I had an awesome night none the less. Next year, we'll take a cab. lol

When your mind is a mess
So is mine
I cant sleep
Cause it hurts when I think
My thoughts aren't at peace
With the plans that we make
Chances we take
They're, not yours and not mine
There's waves that can break
All the words that we say
And the words that we mean
Words can fall short
Can't see the unseen
Cause the world is awake
For somebody's sake now, please close your eyes woman
Please get some sleep

And know that if I knew
All of the answers I would
Not hold them from you'd
Know all the things that i'd know
We told each other, there is no other way

Well too much silence can be misleading
You're drifting I can hear it in the way that your breathing
We don't really need to find reason
Cause out the same door that it came well its leaving its leaving
Leaving like a day that's done and part of a season
Resolve is just a concept that's as dead as the leaves
But at least we can sleep, its all that we need
When we wake we will find
Our minds will be free to go to sleep

And know that if I knew
All of the answers I would
Not hold them from you'd
Know all the things that i'd know
We told each other, there is no other way

Now I'm not too sure what any of this has to do with anything, but I've been having issues sleeping lately, and everynight as I toss and turn jack johnson's voice pops into my head and sings 'For somebody's sake now, please close your eyes woman, Please get some sleep' and I do a stupid little smile and eventually drift off. Ack, that voice could make me do anything, swoons.

It's 3.17am and I spent most of a gloriously sunny day inside, doing an assignment which I only just finished. Stupid uni. And I have work later today, that's gonna be fun to wake up for haha. Weeehoooo, to disrupted sleep patterns! Now, you may notice that this post has nothing to do with shoes or clothes or shopping or anything else that's fashion related. The fact is, sometimes I get an urge to just write. But I've always restained from doing so here because I know the whole gist of iamVinhdicated thus far has been fashion related. Today I'm marking a change, because in my semi-conscious state, I figure, why the hell not? It's MY blog. hahahahehhehehahahe so from now on you'll have to put up with some other random musings if you wanna see the outfits I'm wearing and the things I'm buying :D

a mixed bag.

I'm not quite sure how I'm feeling this week. Mostly the days have just been dragging, and between work and uni (I know I'm only doing one day of uni, but it's a long, draining one) and family and friends and all those other little bits and pieces that make up my life, I've just been feeling like I'm in somewhat of a rutt. I'm just so tired, and no matter what I've done with my day, I feel like I haven't really accomplished anything. Sigh.

I've been trying to save for a holiday, and had been doing fairly well until this week. On thursday small detour on the way home from uni left me $100 out of pocket (but 6 dresses and a skirt richer). And then yesterday, my boyfriend, out of nowhere asked if I wanted to go to (cue singing) Trade Secret. And yes, he did actually sing that bit. I shrugged and agreed (I needed to buy a father's day present anyway). $300 later, I walked out with more presents for myself than anything (Urban originals bags & wallets, maxi skirts, dresses, plain white tees - that sort of thing). However, even he noticed something a bit off with me - asking why I looked so depressed despite part-taking in my favourite past time. I sighed and told him I was in a rutt. He said that maybe I needed a fresh start, and that we should just agree to break it off. I shook my head a laughed at his dorkiness.

Anyway, enough about that. I've been meaning to give the whole colour blocking thing a go for a while now, but hadn't quite plucked up the nerve to do so. On Thursday, I thought, what the hell. People already look at me strangely for the way I dress - may as well just go for gold. Admitedly I would have prefered to have worn heels instead of loafers, but heels aren't exactly uni-nor-laboratory-friendly. PS. I have no idea what I'm doing in that last photo, lol. Leave me alone, I'm in a rutt!

Now what else is funny is how dramatically my style changes from day to day. This is what I wore the following day. I call it Nicole-Ritchie inspired vintage boho. My partner, Alex, called it 'Grandma Clothes'. Lol.

In other news, I've found this amazing fb page called My Best Friend's Wardrobe. The girls that run it are pretty amazing - you pretty much contact them with photos & descriptions of items you want to get rid of, and they create an album called (insert your name here)'s wardrobe. People can view them, and if they want to purchase them they comment 'SOLD' on the picture. Best of all it's free to buy & sell! They've also got a pretty big fan base - with over 1000 likes on their page! Join them here. You can also view my album, Vinh's Wardrobe - it's going very well!
